If you are skinny you should take a bit of time and do a little research on what the scientific definition of skinny actually is. According to dietitians and nutritionists anyone with a body mass index of below 18.5 is what they call skinny.

But you and I both know that eating junk food is not going to solve the problem. The problem with junk food is that half an hour after eating a bag of fries you are hungry again as it never seems to fill you up in a satisfied sort of way.

The reason is simply because the calories are made from simple sugars and if you are skinny then it means that you have a fast metabolism. This fast metabolism will digest these simple sugars very fast and your pancreas will over-produce insulin which will leave you feeling hungry and hour after eating.

But this will change completely if you start eating good quality nutritious food on a regular basis. A regular basis does not mean once a week or once a day, it means every three hours you should have a tasty combination of complex carbohydrate and good quality protein.

Things like a tuna or turkey sandwich on rye bread is what would be considered a good snack. If you are trying to put on weight you should also have a pack of peanuts and raisins handy in case you get hungry. But there are other things like drinking pure fruit-juice instead of sodas is a good habit.

Other things that you can do are obvious things like adding good quality virgin oils to your pasta, breads and salads. Other choices are making up your own granola using things like nuts, raisins, dry cereals, seeds and dried fruits. You can store your granola in an airtight container and serve it for breakfast.

You can also pack some little plastic zippered bags with granola that you can take with you and eat during your day. A good habit to get into is to make sure that you drink pure fruit juice or vegetable juice which is not full of sugar like a soda drink.

All of this assumes that you are doing something on a regular basis to gain muscle like pumping iron at your local gym or doing some other exercise. If you are doing exercise that is anaerobic and you are eating good nutritious food on a regular basis you will soon be picking up good quality, long lasting weight.
