In fact you don't want to jump the weight up too fast – you first have to master the current weight range. And to master it you need to beat it at the repetition range that is higher than just a few reps. One More Rep The best way to boost your rep count is a combination effort of mental and muscle. You have to aim at getting one more rep at least every other workout. Trying to get one more rep every workout is noble but you may fail, and that may discourage you to a great extent. Instead, aim at bumping up the rep count every other workout. If you currently are getting five reps, then your immediate target is six reps. Put everything you have into getting that extra rep. And do the same thing on the succeeding set. Push up the rep count across the board. Patience This approach of pumping up your rep count by aiming at increasing your reps at least every other workout requires patience while your body catches up with your goals. Remember, your body has to carry the load so your mind may want that rep count but you have to get your body there too, and that takes a little time. You also have to be patient in not jumping the gun and increasing the weight load just to have a higher poundage. Wait on the weight load until you reach your target rep range, be it 8 or 10 or something else, before moving the poundage upward.
