Bodybuilding Instinctive Training

Arnold learned instinctive training from Joe Weider
What is Instinctive Training?
Instinctive training is the point where you go from being a novice to
a more advanced level. That's because when you become intuitive in
your training you start to take ownership of where you are going. You
become the driving force instead of looking to others for that drive.
Beginners train by the book. They read the latest magazine articles,
have a training book from a star bodybuilder, or some routine they
found online that they follow religiously. That's rote work, nothing
fancy. Instinctive training, however, is the point when your own mind
starts to get involved. You begin to process how your training might
be better. You start to experiment.
Instinctive training means feeling free to take a day off when you
feel you would gain more from that than from training. Instinctive
training means switching the order of your shoulder training on your
own, because you think that will be more productive. Instinctive
training may even mean coming up with an entirely new exercise to
achieve what you want. Arnold did. Larry Scott did. Vince Gironda
did multiple times.
Instinctive training works best when you have a good amount of
training under your belt. At that point you have established the
background, the core understanding of your physique, to train it
according to what your own body is telling you, rather than relying
on some book program to do the job. With instinctive training you are
effectively taking full control and responsibility for your training.
You don't need a personal trainer – you are the personal trainer.
Going the instinctive training route doesn't mean you are finished
learning. Exactly the opposite. You need to learn all the more. And
from that learning comes your intuitive abilities. So go on, and
start experimenting and listening to what your body is telling you.
That's a powerful combination.
