How To Increase Protein Synthesis For Bodybuilding


Our goal as bodybuilders is to build the maximum amount of muscle mass that we can, and if we want to do that we need to understand protein synthesis.

What is Protein Synthesis?

Simply put, protein synthesis is the process that your body uses amino acids broken down from the protein in your diet to build new muscle tissue.

How To Maximize Protein Synthesis

There are three ways you can have to increase your rate of protein synthesis to help you build more muscle mass.

1) Protein Synthesis Exercise

The number one way to increase protein synthesis is with progressive overload weight training workouts, meaning you must push yourself to do more reps, lift more weight or both, always in good form of course.

Studies show that muscle protein synthesis is elevated by 50 percent 4 hours after an intense weight training workout, and by 109 percent 24 hours after training.

The higher the intensity of your workout, the higher the rate of muscle protein synthesis, because muscle breakdown is what stimulates the repair and growth of new muscle tissue.

2) Protein Synthesis Diet

To insure that your body has all the necessary amino acids to build new muscle mass, you have to make sure that you are eating the right foods.

Eating foods that are high in protein like beef, chicken, fish, eggs, milk and cheese will help support muscle growth stimulated by your intense workout.
