I have a question. About a year ago, my thyroid levels went a little high, enough to gain weight but they wanted to keep testing me every few months before putting me on meds. Last time it was checked my thyroid levels were “normal”. My problem is I had gained 30 lbs and despite diet and exercise, I have not lost any of it and provided I work out and watch diet, I don’t gain. I work out with weights and hour 5 days a week and do cardio as well 5 days a week for an hour. I watch my diet very closely and eat about 1200 calories a day. I have varied both work outs and diet to try to see if more cardio, less weight, vice versa. Do you have any recommendations with diet or exercise? Anything I have used in the past no longer works. Just a side note, I have successfully lost weight and maintained it. I had lost 80 lbs and maintained it until this.
Hi Rachel,
I understand your dilemma. First course of action is that you need to take 2 weeks off. Stop training.
Growth comes in spurts, so does weight loss. What you have to do is force the body into the reaction of loosing or gaining. Your body seems to have gotten used to the place where it is now. A few weeks rest and some extra calories is just what it needs.
During your time off, keep dieting but add in an extra 200-300 calories a day. When the vacation is over, go back to the previous calorie intake.
