Can anyone explain to me what these are and how they're done? Thanx in advance!
I have always seen them done as well as done them as a stiff-leg deadlift with bent legs. lower the bar to just below the knee and then bring it back up.
A RDL is somewhat similar to a stiff legged deadlift, but not quite. in the stiff legged deadlift, you actually push your butt back to lower the bar. your weight will be shifted back onto your heels, and if you do them right, your toes will begin to come off of the ground. to lift the weight, push the hips back into the bar and straighten up.
They are a weight-on-the-rear-of-the-foot, back arched, butt moving way back, bar kept close to the body, movement, that strengthen the spinal erectors and hip extensors. You can do them from the floor, if you are flexible enough, standing on blocks if you are even more flexible, or from the hang or blocks to above or below the knees for a good workout. Also called "Keystone Deadlifts" by Hatfield, (I thought because of the shape of the body looking like the State of Pennsylvania symbol, but according to Dr. Hatfield, because you poke out your butt and chest like a silent flick Keystone cop....that's about all I know...
