Arnold Schwarzenegger was long-limbed and tall; he was always going to be facing an uphill battle to build his overall leg mass. It was only his dogged determination which finally enabled him to increase the size of his legs to balance that huge upper-body with 22 inch arms and 54" chest, it's not easy balancing that, but somehow he did and won 7 Mr. Olympia titles.
Arnold would do the squat workout below three times a week, if you're wondering if he was ever criticized for over-training, yes he was. Arnold defended himself by saying that it works for him. Arnold tells stories about squatting with logs for 3 hours in the forest, he also worked out that by changing the angle of his feet he can stress certain parts of his leg. Arnold has written a book on squats, we cannot hope to cover all the many different aspects of the squat here.
