Steve Reeves was a professional bodybuilder who won Mr. America, Mr. World, and Mr. Universe. He was also and movie actor best known for playing Hercules. He never took steroids and trained using only basic free weight training equipment.
In those early years there was not a lot of knowledge on nutrition, protein requirements or even the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates. But Steve made it work by sticking to a simple eating system of only three times a day and no more.
For breakfast Steve would use a protein powder that he made up himself which we do not have the ingredients for but must assume that it gave him the protein he needed. He would mix this privately blended protein powder he made with a glass of fresh orange juice. He would mix in some honey, one banana and 3 raw eggs with this protein powder mix and blend it all together for his morning meal.
For lunch Steve would eat fresh seasonal fruits which he would always add some cottage cheese and mix in at least a handful of raisins and nuts.
For dinner his last meal of the day would be s big salad with tuna, swordfish steak or turkey.
In notes that he made on his eating habits he would stress the importance of eating 15% fat and 25% protein with 60 % of his diet coming from carbohydrates to keep him energized for those long tough workouts he would do on a daily basis only taking a break once during the week and on weekends. It must be assumed that for a man standing 6 foot 1 inches tall and weighing in at 218 pounds that he would eat more in the off-season.
