Hey guys,
So I am at a bit of a crossroads. I have been doing Mike Mentzer's Ideal Routine now for almost 3 months. Currently training every 5 days. And I am still continuing to progress every workout. My main goal at the moment though is fat loss. I am in a slight calorie deficit and am dropping about a pound per week on average (sometimes stay the same) and have lost about an inch on my waist. I seem to be on the right track but I can't help but think I'm missing out on some real muscle gains while on this program. You see, I am currently deployed (military) and am due to return home the first week of July. I want to look as good as possible. So my dilemma is, do I continue with the slow cut for the next three months knowing that I'll keep losing fat but only maintain muscle at best, or, do I take the month of April and bump my calories up to try to maximize muscle growth for a while, then take the remaining two months to cut back down? Or is there a 3rd option somewhere in between? For reference I am 5'10", 173 lbs and probably right now between 18-20% BF. Thanks in advance!

You can it fact gain muscle while in a slight calorie deficit if you are training hard enough, I recommend you continue to lose fat because 18 to 20 % is too high, if you got down to under 10 % you will look much bigger and better.
