Q: What is exactly is natural bodybuilding, how is it defined?
A: Natural bodybuilding is competitive bodybuilding without the use of enhancement drugs, ie: anabolic steroids, growth hormones, etc. Different federations have different natural standards, some examples are: 2 years drug free, lifetime drug free, etc.
There are vast differences in the training techniques (both mental and physical) of Natural versus non-Natural Bodybuilders.
Natural Bodybuilder:
Drug-free athlete - no steroids, growth hormone (HGH), testosterone boosters, prescription diuretics, and so on.
There is a banned substance list, the same used by our Olympic Athletes, regulated by the IOC (international Olympic Committee).
Physique athlete that uses weight training, diet, and proper rest to achieve maximum muscle mass with low body-fat.
Supplements such as creatine, protein powder, BCAAs, glutamine, caffeine, and arginine are widely used by the natural athlete.
Bodybuilder (non-Natural):
Basically no rules on what can be used to achieve the results a competitor desires. Often these competitors use steroids, growth hormone (HGH), synthol, insulin, prescription diuretics, and many others.
Larger industry (more $) due to the appeal of the excessive supplement industry and magazines.
Physique athlete that uses weight training & diet to achieve maximum muscle mass with low body-fat.
