Yohimbe supplements and birth control pills

Q. I have a female athlete that is using the birth control pill. I was wondering if she could use a yohimbe product - do you know of any possible side effects from using the two simultaneously?

A. Birth Control pills generally contain an estrogen and progestin. The estrogen is usually the same while the progestin varies according to whether it's derived from 19-nortestosterone, progesterone, or even an aldosterone derivative (such as Yasmin). None of these have any significant interactions with yohimbine, although each of them singulary can result in side effects.
