Benefits of Amino Acids for Bodybuilding

Amino acids are the basic building blocks of protein. They are essential in maintaining muscle and tissue in the body. When amino acids are joined together in chains they form protein. Protein provides amino acids for the bodies use. Researchers have found that there are 21 amino acids. The goal of bodybuilders is to increase muscle mass and the only way they can do this is to increase protein. But, to increase protein they need a sufficient amount of amino acids. This is why bodybuilders will greatly increase the protein in their diets by eating more meats, eggs, etc. and will probably purchase a good amino acid supplement.

Amino acids are divided into two groups, non-essential amino acids and essential amino acids. Non-essential amino acids are produced by the body normally. One important factor of amino acids is that the liver converts it to glucose. If the body does not produce enough amino acids then they are aquired through protein in the diet.

Amino acids are necessary to keep connective tissue, blood, skin, organs and muscles healthy. Amino acids are important in the body for healing wounds and injuries. Bodybuilders can sustain injury to cartilage, tendons and muscles, but, only if they don't train right. Injuries to happen even to the most advanced weight lifter. Heavy lifting will put extreme pressure on joints and this can slow down weight lifting progress.

Amino acids come from animal and plant sources. You will get more complete amino acids through animal sources, while plant/vegetable sources lack a few of the necessary amino acids. Dairy products and legumes also offer a good source of protein.

People who are interested in bodybuildign or weight lifting, soon find out that their protein must be increased, either through supplements or diet. Amino acids are an important nutrient for weight lifters to take, as they are the building block of protein. The body constantly breaks down protein to rebuild muscle. Protein is important to weight lifters because they are pushing the building of muscle to the limit.
