Tips on bodybuilding for tall guys

It goes without saying that whether you are tall or short doing any weight training exercise correctly will help you increase your strength and endurance. The positive effects of an increase in your strength and general fitness is that you look better and feel stronger.

You will also increase the amount of muscle that you carry and the result of this will be an increase in the speed of your metabolism and a general improvement of your health. But if you are tall then you need to be extra careful when doing compound movements.

The reason why you need to take extra care is because your fulcrum is more exaggerated and the weight that you lift will place more stress on the joints than a shorter person. As a result there are certain exercises that are highly recommended in order to get results without any undue stress on your joints.

As you know Squats are very important in putting on muscle mass, but when you are tall you are forced to lean too far forward during squats which can hurt your low back and knees.

Below are some examples of leg exercises that would help a tall person make great gains with less chance of pain or injury.

Note: It is very important to note that as a tall person you need to always make sure that you are taking your strength from your center by keeping your abs and lower back tight.

1. Front Squat - With a barbell in the power rack, bring your arms under the bar; keep your elbows high, cross your arms and hold the bar with your hands. Lift the bar and step back. Bend you knees and lower to the parallel position while keeping your head up and your back straight. Stand back up and repeat for reps.

2. Smith Machine Squats - Set the bar at shoulder height, place your shoulder under the bar and unlock it. Keep your head up and your back straight. Bend your knees and lower until your thighs are below parallel. Stand back up and repeat for reps.

2. Leg Press - Sit in the machine, and put your feet on the platform, with your heels placed low, using wide stance with your toes out. Bend your knees until they are almost against your chest and then press the weight back up again. Repeat for reps.
